Q9. WHAT IS THIS VISIT TO HMS BRISTOL AND WHAT DOES IT COST?
9. HMS Bristol is a cadet accommodation ship based alongside at Whale Island in Portsmouth.
During the stay, the ship is run by the officers and Senior ratings of the Sea Cadet Corps.
This ships gives cadets the feel of living on a Royal Navy Ship and is also fitted out with
classrooms where cadets study, during the week, for qualifications which gain them points
towards progressive promotion within the Corps.
In addition to classroom work there
are practical sessions involving sailing, power boating, shooting and other external activities.
The
cadets of TS Sheffield travel there with their colleagues from the South York's and Humber District,
which gives them the opportunity to make long lasting friendships with young people outside of
Sheffield.
The cost of the week varies from year to year because of increases in the
cost of travel.
For this type of visit we do not have travel assistance from the Ministry
of Defence.
Cadets and Staff travel by Coach.
